VH1 Won’t Spice Up Its Lineup

Zig Ah Zig, darn!

VH1 was going to Spice up my life with a new reality show, but it looks like it has been scrapped, and I am seriously disappointed. The idea behind the show was to find the ultimate Spice Girl Tribute Band (can you call it a band when you’re covering Spice Girls?). Unfortunately, the Spice Girl Lawyers decided they didn’t like that idea and so VH1 has had to completely retool the show. Originally titled “Wannabe: Spice Girls”, the premise was to find the best imitator for Scary, Posh, Sporty, Baby, and Ginger Spice and put them together in a group. Think American Idol for Spice Girl impersonators and you’ve got it. That could be a hot mess and would have been an outstanding show to be stuck watching so I could cover it for you, my dear readers. But, no. They had to go and mess with a good thing.

The show will still go on, however, just as nothing even remotely like the original idea. The show will now be simply called “Wannabe” and will give people trying to break into the business one last show. There are already several shows just like that so I’m not really excited for this new concept. The stripped down show will begin airing on VH1 on November 23rd as scheduled.

The real Spice Girls have recently reunited and are on tour around the world. Their world tour sold out in seconds, and their greatest hits album will be released soon. The CD includes a new song “Headlines”, which they just finished shooting the video for this past week. I guess if I can’t see ridiculous impersonators on VH1, I guess I’ll just have to catch the ridiculous originals during the video blocks of programming. How unimaginative.
