Last time, Scott and Renee moved into their new house and Scott got annoyed by Renee’s yelling. Johnny V decides to get married, too, and Scott finally opens up to Renee about how he’s really feeling.
We start off this week in the Daddies to Be class. They have to figure out if they are a “policeman” or “fireman” parent and how they can become a nurturing parent. Scott talks about his own parents and he’s not sure how to be the nurturing parent. The other guys in the class relay stories about how they emulate their childhood.
Scott meets up with the guys at a batting cage and talks about his class and how he’s decided to go back to Brooklyn to investigate his childhood. Steve says he’ll go with him because he needs to find some wedding locations there anyway. Johnny V wants to go, but Scott says no. Scott says Renee will go, too, but she can’t fly at this stage of her pregnancy.
As they paint the nursery, Scott tells Renee the plan about going back to Brooklyn and she gets mad because she can’t fly. After he assures her only Steve and not Johnny is going back with him, so she’s fine with it. Since he’s leaving for awhile, Renee tries to seduce him and he hesitates because she’s so big, but he says he’ll try.
Scott gets on the plane for Brooklyn and can’t help but notice all the kids on the plane acting up. He decides he won’t be the annoying parent who brings their annoying kid on a 5 hour flight. He and Steve grab a cab and talk about how he is having a girl. The get nostalgic as they cross Brooklyn bridge and Scott sings some Phil Collins.
Scott decides to meet up with his old friends from Brooklyn who were a lot like his current friends. He meets up with his friend Anthony and his uncle. He tells Scott to kiss his wife for giving him a beautiful baby and then just watch the baby grow. Steve goes to meet up with fiancee as Scott and Anthony go to their old favorite sandwich shop and Scott is offended that there is no sandwich named after him. His other friends Steven and Richie show up to eat, too.
They order some sandwiches and Scott asks for wheat bread and the guys make fun of him. Richie starts talking about having a colicky kid and having a daughter when she gets her period. He says goodbye to his friends and goes back to his hotel. He calls Renee and she tells him that if the baby goes full term she’s going to be over 9 lbs. He tells her about his friends with their grown children and the hang up as he thinks about how fast his baby is already growing.
The next day, he’s walking down the street with Anthony and he finally gets his sandwich named after him. They go to his old house and memories come flooding back. He couldn’t believe how small the house was compared to his house. They go down the road and Anthony yells up to a window and his mom pops her head out and says hello. Their next stop is their old school and see their fifth grade teacher. He tells her he has no idea what to do with a girl and she tells him to just love her and that’s all she’ll need. He thinks he is completely screwed up, though, so he needs to do things differently than his parents and he was running out of people to get advice from.
They reminisce about Scott’s very first day of school and how his mom promised she would stay right outside the door and then he started feeling guilty about blaming his parents for how screwed up he is. He goes to a church to pray and starts talking to a nun about being scared. She listens to him and he starts to cry as he talks about his father dying and that he can’t tell him about it. The nun assures him his dad won’t miss a thing and he’s got a front row seat. She tells Scott that it’s okay because he’s got a part of his dad in him. The nun tells Scott the best gift he can give the baby is to truly love its mother, because that will hold everything together in the end. He finishes praying and leaves the church after thanking the nun.
Scott is still confused as to what kind of parent he wanted to be. He did figure out he needed to love Renee and the baby, and that became his plan. He decided the best thing to do is to jump on a plane and go back home and prove he loves them.
Next time, Scott finds out how much a baby costs and Renee plans an extravagant wedding. She has her wedding shower, so the guys take Scott to Vegas for a “man shower”. Scott gets drunk and loses a bunch of money.
