Reality Rewind 1/13 (Scott Baio)

Scott Baio is no longer 45 and Single. Scott Baio is now 46 and Pregnant. Luckily, we’re all along for the ride as the perpetual bachelor gives up the swinging lifestyle to settle down with one woman and become a daddy. It couldn’t happen to a nicer neurotic mess! I caught the premiere episode, did you? I forgot what a great 80s soundtrack this show has, so that was great. It was also great to see the whole gang back together and Scott still acting like a child. I guess some things never change.
For the recap, keep reading after the jump.

Last season, Scott tried to figure out why he’s never been married and enlisted in the help of Doc Ali the life coach to figure it out. She made him not see his girlfriend Renee for the entire 8 weeks. Scott spent the eight weeks visiting with old girlfriends to figure out what went wrong and why he can’t commit. His sidekick Johnny V. made life miserable during the eight weeks for Scott and Doc Ali eventually made him “break up” with Johnny V. At the end of the season he does tell Renee he’s ready to get married and she tells him she’s pregnant. Now we’re ready for season 2!
This season starts off where season one ended. Scott is sitting in a golf cart at 3:30 am after his graduation party. He recaps the end of the party when he found out he’s going to be a dad. After he found out, he freaks out on Renee and then he ran, attacked a valet, stole a catering van, and broke into his country club.
His friends Jason and Steve, and even Johnny V, show up at 4 am for the “emergency meeting” that Scott called. Johnny immediately start in on him about not being invited to the graduation party. Scott interrupts and tells them Renee is pregnant. Steve and Jason congratulate him and Johnny wants Scott to protect himself from Renee and getting trapped. Scott says he’s numb and has no idea what to do. Steve tells him to call Doc Ali. Johnny hugs him and says he supports him. Johnny can’t find his keys to get home.
Scott gets on the phone with Doc Ali and tells her Renee is pregnant and that’s he is scared. She tells him he’s ready and it’s time and he can handle it. She tells him she will set him up with some Daddy To Be classes and she’ll call him in the morning.
Three weeks later, Scott and Renee are driving down the street and heading to the doctor’s appointment where they will find out if it’s a boy or a girl. Johnny V calls and offers to help and Renee is a tad perturbed that he’s still talking to Johnny. Renee asks him if he’s nervous and he says he’s been nervous since he found out she was pregnant. She tells him she did it all by herself last time when she was still a kid and she learned and he will too. Scott is worried it will be a girl and he won’t know what to do with her. Scott tells Renee he’s heard that you can plug a baby girl’s nose and blow into her mouth really hard and pop out a penis. He tells her they do it in Helsinki, but isn’t sure where that is. Renee rolls her eyes and gets out of the car.
They go into the gynochologist’s office and Scott is nervous and sits on the floor behind the door. Scott tells the doctor he is concerned if it’s a boy or a girl. The doctor finds the baby’s heartbeat and Renee is happy and Scott looks scared. Scott stands off to the side and tries not to seem too frightened for Renee. He eventually makes his way closer to Renee so he can see the screen. He sees the head and brain and seems impressed, but as the doctor leaves the room to go get another doctor, he sinks to the floor and looks like he’s going to be sick. They leave the exam room and they hand Renee an envelope with the baby’s sex in it, but Scott convinces her to not open it yet. They do a montage of all the sonograms from 12 weeks through 32 weeks and you can see the baby grow as Scott’s voice over talks about how he has to buy all kinds of baby stuff before it’s born.
He decides the first thing they need to buy is a new and bigger house. This is clearly much later as Renee is much much bigger as they look for houses. The first house they see has 5 bedrooms and is over 7000 square feet. Scott’s excited that no one has ever lived there and it would have brand new toilets. Scott tries all the faucets and jokes that they can put the baby in the double ovens if it misbehaves. He then walks across to the other side of the house and gets excited when Renee can’t hear him when he’s talking. He wants to play good cop/bad cop with the realtor about the house, but Renee thinks it’s too big.
They head upstairs to check out the bedrooms and Scott wants to turn a room into an office and Renee and the realtor thinks it would make a great nursery. This freaks Scott out because it’s so close to their bedroom and Renee explains the baby has to be close so they can hear it at night and that it will sleep in a bassinet in their bedroom for awhile when it’s a newborn. Scott looks frightened and then asks if the baby can sleep in the corner and Renee shakes her head at him.
They go outside to talk about the house and Renee tells him that he’s doing it for him and they don’t need all that extra room. Scott tries to rationalize that they will have family and friends stopping by and they need room for a nanny. He then compromises and says the baby can sleep in the room next to theirs and he is going to buy the house, but wants Renee to still say it’s too big to get the price to come down. He also says the house is so expensive that he’ll be too busy working to spend time in it anyway.
Renee is now 30 weeks pregnant. Scott finally signs up for the Daddies To Be class and goes to a meeting. The teacher’s name is Bill and he wants to know what the students’ worries are. Daniel has a 2 month old baby boy and he wants to learn. Dean has a baby on the way in a couple of weeks. Dez is 20 years old and he’s having a baby which amazes Scott because he’s got shoes older than Dez. Scott introduces himself and says he’s going to wing it. Bill picks up his fear and apprehension.
Bill brings in a baby named Charlotte and Scott is scared. Bill shows the guys how to hold the baby and connect to her. He continues to talk to the baby and Scott thinks Bill is talking to him. Bill wants them to learn how to read the baby’s emotion. By the time the baby is passed to Dez she’s crying and Bill talks him through it and he calms her down. Dez thinks it’s his cologne and he goes to put the baby on Scott’s shoulder. Scott doesn’t know how to do the transfer and Charlotte starts crying loudly. Bill tries to talk him through it, but has to come and take her and calm her down. Scott says he was afraid her crying was a dirty diaper and wasn’t ready for that. Bill gives them a Daddy Journal and tells them to get closure on things that are still unresolved before the baby comes.
Later, Scott heads to the driving range with his friends. He tells them about the house he bought and Jason thinks he’s kidding with how big it is. Steve asks him what color they are going to paint the nursery and Jason says they can’t paint until they know the sex. Scott tells them he doesn’t know and about the envelope they haven’t opened because he’s afraid it will be a girl. Jason tries to calm him down and tells him as long as it’s healthy it will be great and Steve tells him to be thankful he didn’t get two envelopes.
Scott tells the guys about his class and his Daddy Journal. He admits he hasn’t made his To Do List yet. Steve tells Scott the first thing he should do is marry Renee. Scott asks Jason if he’s thinking about his kids while he’s there golfing and he says he honestly is and it’s different when you have kids. Scott decides he needs a beer and sits down with Johnny V who is unusually quiet. Johnny says he doesn’t feel like he’s there and he feels left out of Scott’s life and he doesn’t feel included. Scott says he’s acting more hormonal than Renee. They start making bets about distance with a beer in hand, cigar in mouth, opposite handed. Johnny doesn’t even try so he loses the bet.
Scott and Renee head to the same restaurant they went to when he told her he couldn’t see her for eight weeks. They talk about the house and Renee still thinks it’s too big. He tells her about his Daddy To Be class and how he had to hold a real baby. He talks about how great Bill is with the baby. Scott tells Renee he wanted to throw the kid out the window when she was crying and then realizes that probably wasn’t the right thing to say and promises her he won’t throw the baby out the window. He says his first class was really cool and next time he’s going to record Bill’s voice to play on a loop for their baby when it’s fussy.
Renee spots a table magician across the room and Scott says he hates that kind of crap and wants to be left alone. Renee changes the subject and asks Scott if he has thought about what color to paint the nursery. She doesn’t want pink or blue, but rather a yellow or a green. Scott is distracted when he hears a big boom from where the magician is and he wonders if the guy is dropping anvils on people, which makes Renee laugh.
The magician comes to their table and Renee asks him to do a trick. He tells her to put up her hands and to close her eyes. Scott takes the magician’s handkerchief and puts it over her hands and then puts his hands under the handkerchief as well. The magician tells Renee to open her eyes and he pulls off the handkerchief. In between her hands is an engagement ring and Scott proposes as Renee cries as she asks him again if he’s sure and if it’s not just for the new baby. He assures her it’s not and he was going to do it before he knew she was pregnant.
He then pulls the envelope out of his jacket and asks Renee to open it and find out what the baby is. She turns the paper around and shows him that it’s a girl. He laughs and says he knew it and says God has a sense of humor. He keeps repeating over and over “it’s a girl” and downs his wine and asks for more. He admits it would have been a lot easier if that envelope had said it was a boy. Now he’s got to spend the next 18 years keeping his little girl away from boys like him. Unless she’s a lesbian, and he thinks that’s almost as good as having a boy.
This season, Scott takes more Daddy To Be classes and his To Do List grows. He gambles to get more money and does some animated work. He has a bachelor party and drives a race car. He goes back to Brooklyn to visit his childhood home. He gets scared and cries. Renee gives birth and he gives the baby a kiss.
