Reality Rewind 10/15 (Salt N Pepa)

saltnpepa2.jpgDid you catch the premiere of the brand new CelebReality offering Salt N Pepa Show? Will the legendary hip hop duo be able to put their differences aside to become a team again and reach the top? This season looks to be full of fireworks and great music and I have your recap of the very first episode right here after the jump.

The show starts out with Salt and Pepa interviewing about the end of the group. They broke up because Salt felt depressed, overworked, and that Pepa was always competing with her. She just called her up and said it was over one day. Pepa didn’t think that was fair.

Salt found God, got married and had a family after leaving the group. She says it was the best thing that ever happened to her. Pepa says she hasn’t changed and never will. Pepa still holds a grudge and there is tension between them. Their manager comes to them and asks them to sing at Shaquille O’Neil’s birthday party. Salt doesn’t want to do it because she doesn’t want to sing about penises and sex anymore now that she’s found God. Pepa wants to do it and says they can change some lyrics and then brings up the fact that Salt called up and just quit and left her hanging. Salt says she needed to fix her bulimia and that was all she could think about at the time and getting well. They both cry a little and the manager asks them what their next step is going to be and Pepa asks they just try one song to get their feet wet.

Later, Salt is at home with friends praying while Pepa goes out with some friends to a bar and restaurant. Salt tells her friends at their prayer circle about what happened that day and Pepa vents to her friends as well. They both blame things on each other and Salt’s friends tell her to touch people’s lives and still be true to herself. Pepa’s friends tell her to compromise. Salt calls Pepa and says she’ll give it a shot and Pepa says she will do her best to make her comfortable.

Salt is nervous because she hasn’t performed since they broke up almost a decade ago and has been leading a quiet life ever since then. Pepa is still living a crazy and wild life. They meet to go over the songs and see how they can be changed to make Salt more comfortable. She brought along her manager husband to the meeting. She picks a few lines she feels she needs to change and they sound okay to Pepa. They also decide to change the line about a body like Arnold to a body like Barack like Barack Obama.

They practice and then go to a stage area and practices with back up singers and a band. Pepa brings up a guy on a chair and dances around on him, which Salt does not like. She takes Pepa into a bathroom to tell her she’s uncomfortable with it. Pepa just wants to set up a routine like the old days and Salt wants them to act like mothers. Pepa agrees to tone it down somewhat, but still stands by her thought that she wasn’t doing anything wrong.

They go off to the park to talk about the situation. Pepa asks her if she has to lose her entire self for all of this. Salt tells her that she asked her to let her know when she’s uncomfortable and that’s what she’s done. She tells Pepa that Shaq cancelled, so she wants them to sing at her church. This takes Pepa by surprise, but she goes to the church and sees it’s large like a concert hall so she feels better about. Salt tells her she can’t do any sort of sexy moves on the stage.

Back at home, Pepa is trying to figure out what to wear and decides on a nice see through shirt (with a bra). When she gets to the church, Salt makes her change a few times until she’s presentable, including taking off the high sexy boots. Salt introduces Pepa and they perform a different version of “What A Man” that was all about Jesus. Pepa does start to do a sexy move and Salt pulled her back up as the crowd laughed. The performance goes over well and Salt is thankful that Pepa did it and apologizes for the way things ended before. Pepa brings up the idea of them performing in Australia in December and Salt is not receptive to it.

Next time, Salt decides to help Pepa find a good man. She sets her up with a guy who doesn’t believe in sex when dating, which is not at all what Pepa wants.
