Weekend Video Clip (World Series of Pop Culture)

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

This weekend’s video clip from VH1 is the long promo for the World Series of Pop Culture 2007. It’s looking to be an exciting season of the crazy trivia gameshow. El Chupacabra, last year’s winners, return to defend their title against 15 new teams. The promo says it starts on Monday, but if you follow the TV schedule, you can catch the first episode at 11:00 PM on Sunday night before it’s “official” premiere.

Test Your Pop Culture Knowledge

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

The World Series of Pop Culture 2007 debuts on VH1 next month. This season, fans of the show have the chance to test their own pop culture trivia knowledge with the newly launched website http://www.worldofpop.com. If you’re anything like me, you yell at your TV screen and maybe even throw things when the contestants on the World Series of Pop Culture miss an easy question. Now you can put your pride on the line and compete for $2500 to $10,000 after each show. Mediaweek.com reports:

Following every WSPC episode this summer, fans can go to the site to compete in TriviaDome, a game in which they’re grilled with 25 questions such as: “Which younger actor recently revealed a long-standing crush on Jennifer Aniston, his current co-star?” (Answer: Adam Brody, of The O.C. fame.)

There will be two prizes per night–one after the Eastern/Central time zone airing and one after the Pacific time zone show–of $2500 each. One lucky person will win the $10,000 grand prize at the culmination of the series. The World Series of Pop Culture 2007 first airs on July 9th on VH1. I’ll see you in the “TriviaDome” after the show!

World Series of Pop Culture 2007, Coming Soon!

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Last year, we watched 16 teams go head to head in a crazy hybrid of trivia and useless pop culture knowledge in a whacked out spelling bee format. From the gravitas of the Ben Stein-like monotone host Pat Kiernan making contestants state their names, to the crazy team wspchosts.jpgnames and outfits, this satisfying little guilty pleasure delivered mind-bending entertainment.

Well, it’s back. The new 16 teams have been chosen, including a team made up of random people who took an internet quiz, and they’ve competed to win the $250,000 prize. The World Series of Pop Culture 2007 is now in the can and will air soon on VH1. The contest was filmed before a live audience the last week in March. There is no official word yet of any spoilers or an expected airdate, but be sure to check back here for that announcement.

I, for one, cannot wait for this show to start up again. I will surely be sitting on my couch watching the competition and yelling out answers and a variety of insults at the contestants. I will admit that I did take the test to become a contestant, but alas, I was not one of the final three chosen to make up the hodgepodge team. I expect to have some special insults just for them since I’m bitter they beat me out to be on the show.

To catch some highlights of last year’s competition, you can check out the VH1 World Series of Pop Culture page.
