Last year, we watched 16 teams go head to head in a crazy hybrid of trivia and useless pop culture knowledge in a whacked out spelling bee format. From the gravitas of the Ben Stein-like monotone host Pat Kiernan making contestants state their names, to the crazy team
names and outfits, this satisfying little guilty pleasure delivered mind-bending entertainment.
Well, it’s back. The new 16 teams have been chosen, including a team made up of random people who took an internet quiz, and they’ve competed to win the $250,000 prize. The World Series of Pop Culture 2007 is now in the can and will air soon on VH1. The contest was filmed before a live audience the last week in March. There is no official word yet of any spoilers or an expected airdate, but be sure to check back here for that announcement.
I, for one, cannot wait for this show to start up again. I will surely be sitting on my couch watching the competition and yelling out answers and a variety of insults at the contestants. I will admit that I did take the test to become a contestant, but alas, I was not one of the final three chosen to make up the hodgepodge team. I expect to have some special insults just for them since I’m bitter they beat me out to be on the show.
