Watching VH1

Well, the season has come to a close and Sureshot is looking for a record deal. I thought it might be a good time to take a trip down memory lane and revisit Watching VH1’s coverage of Mission: Man Band.

Long before the season started, I was able to make a post announcing the show. Were you ready for the Man Band? I know I sure was! In fact, I was able to find a video blog of Chris giving a tour of the Man Band Mansion and I was surprised to learn the show would take on a serious tone. From all I know about these guys, being a boy band fan, I just knew they were fun loving guys with a crazy sense of humor.

I then got word that I got to do phone interviews with the guys from the band and squealed about it for awhile. The interviews kept getting postponed, but their publicist sent lots of Man Band info for me to share. The exclusive interviews with Chris Kirkpatrick, Jeff Timmons, and Rich Cronin were a great experience that I was happy to share with other fans. After talking with Rich on the phone, I really wanted to help out his foundation, so I signed up to walk 100 miles and collect pledges (which I am still taking, by the way, if you can donate). I never did get a chance to talk with Bryan Abrams, but maybe if they get their record deal, I can track him down then!

I was relieved to find out that the guys weren’t always so serious. Their crazy video to “Work That Out” proved it, and I posted the entire video for everyone to see that, too. I, of course, wrote recaps of all the shows for RealityShack, as well.

All-in-all, it’s been a great season. I, for one, am keeping my fingers crossed for season 2! How about you? Leave your comments below.

After I got done talking to Jeff Timmons, my phone rang again and this time it was Chris Kirkpatrick on the other end. Interviewing Chris was such a huge thrill for me, because as you listen to the interview or read the transcript, you will see I have seen NSync in concert 5 times. It was an honor to be able to spend 20 minutes talking to someone I’ve admired from afar for years.

*Insert Fangirl Shriek Here* Last week, I was lucky enough to talk to the guys from Sureshot on VH1’s Mission: Man Band in an exclusive interview for this blog. I’ll bring you one of my interviews each day this week in both podcast and transcript formats. I interviewed Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees), Chris Kirkpatrick (NSync), and Rich Cronin (LFO). Bryan Abrams was unavailable for an interview because his wife was having their baby, so congrats, Bryan!

The recap for The Pickup Artist should be up sometime later this evening. However, I’ve recapped Mission: Man Band for the RealityShack, so you can head over there to read it! So I’m a little bummed, but my interview with the guys from Mission: Man Band got postponed. It was supposed to happen this afternoon, but their flight out of NYC got in the way, so we’re postponing the interview. I’m still going to do one, though, so keep those questions coming! Ahhhhh, my CelebReality life is now complete. I just finished watching the premiere of Mission: Man Band on VH1. I’m writing the recaps for the show over at RealityShack.com, so if you missed the episode and want to know what happened, head on over and read the recap!

Hopefully I can get the recaps for The Rock Life up tomorrow sometime. If you read my blog, you know that I’m psyched about the premiere of “Mission: Man Band” on VH1 (Monday August 6th, 10 pm ET). I have my Google news alerts set to go off anytime something about the show gets printed. Well, I was surprised when I opened up my alert and found that perhaps “Mission: Man Band” is going to be much different than I expected.

I knew they would have a tough time breaking back into the biz in the youth driven business of pop music, but I had no idea that the show would take such a serious tone. The Orlando Sentinal reports:

“They wanted this light-hearted look: Where are they? How fat are they?” Kirkpatrick says. “They wanted the Surreal Life with boy bands. But they got some real compelling stuff that you go, ‘Wow!’ I think people will see that we’re normal guys who had crazy stuff happen to us.”

The show will get into Rich Cronin’s leukemia, Chris Kirkpatrick’s depression, Bryan Abrams’ alcoholism, and Jeff Timmons’ stage fright. These guys sound like they have some issues that are compounded when they are booed at an Orlando Magic game during a performance.

I, of course, will watch anyway. Will you?
