Watching VH1

Happy Fat Tuesday! It’s Mardi Gras down in New Orleans and Salt N Pepa are down there on their own float, throwing out beads and helping build houses for Hurricane Katrina victims. I’ll bet the partying was Pep’s idea and the building houses was the only way to get Salt to go along for the trip.

The reason this is news, is because they took their VH1 camera crews with them to Louisiana. That’s right! Our favorite hip hop dysfunctional duo are filming a second season of their hit VH1 CelebReality show The Salt N Pepa Show. They are currently filming now, so there has been no official word when a second season would air on VH1. If I had to guess, I would say most likely late spring or early summer would be the soonest the new season would premiere considering some of the current CelebReality shows will still be airing into May.

Is anyone else a bit surprised that they will do a second season? First of all, I didn’t think they got the ratings that are generally needed for VH1 to greenlight a second season (but then again, Scott Baio got a pickup and I thought the same thing there). Also, Salt was so reluctant about doing the first season that I didn’t think she would be on board for round 2. The Jena 6 episode must have made her realize what a great platform she has to advance her messages and opinions in the public eye.

Sometimes being a celebrity means taking a stand for something you believe in and using your fame to make some progress. In March of this year, Darryl welcomed Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson to the

“I wanna SHOOP baby!” What happens when former music partners and best friends try to reconcile and recapture their past magic? VH1, thankfully, is going to answer that question for us when The Salt N Pepa Show debuts on Monday October 15. Pepa (Sandy Denton) is no stranger to VH1’s CelebReality. She has previously starred on the Surreal Life and even came close to winning The Surreal Life Fame Games. She can handle the cameras, but can she handle her ex-friend Salt (Cheryl James)? According to the VH1 press release:

Premiering Monday, October 15, “The Salt ‘N Pepa Show,” will follow the ladies as they attempt to reunite on and off the stage in this funny, often touching reality series. They soon discover however, that achieving this is easier said than done since most of their past issues are still unresolved. Salt is angry about being unappreciated when they were together and Pepa blames Salt for breaking up the group.

There is no word if Spinderella will be included in the show or the reunion. For more information, check out VH1.com.
