Watching VH1

I know this doesn’t have anything to do with VH1 or VH1 reality shows, but I couldn’t help but put up a post because I didn’t believe it when I heard it on the radio this afternoon. Heath Ledger was found dead in a New York apartment this afternoon. He was 28. Our thoughts go out to his family and his little daughter Matilda.

Will the new season of CelebReality EVER get here? This week sure is seeming to drag on and on, don’t you think? Well, while we’re waiting, let’s look around at the gossip surrounding our favorite VH1 CelebReality stars.

New York and Tailor Made Still Going Strong

So we know that Tailor Made and New York got engaged on the reunion show (thank goodness she’s not pregnant!), but there had been rumors floating around some internet message boards this week that they had broken up after the airing of the finale and it was all just a show until that was over. Not true, says a VH1 spokesperson. They are still together, in love, and there will be no I Love New York 3. Good for them! Let’s just hope there isn’t a reality show for Sister Patterson and Champion. Brooke Hogan, Dancing Queen?

There has been lots of talk about Brooke Hogan trying to lobby her way onto the next season of Dancing With the Stars. Hulk Hogan himself confirmed that she did indeed try out for the show, but there is no official cast list as of yet. He also mentioned in a Newsweek article that she may get her own spin off of the CelebReality hit Hogan Knows Best. The show is currently halted do to the pending divorce of Hulk and Linda and Nick Hogan’s current legal troubles.

Jessica Sierra May Be in Rehab Forever

Celebrity Rehab doesn’t begin airing until tomorrow on VH1, but we already know that one participant, former American Idol contestant Jessica Sierra, didn’t learn her lesson from Dr. Drew on the show. Sierra has been in jail since December 1st after being arrested in Florida for drug possession, among other things. The pregnant jailbird got a reprieve earlier in the week, though, when the judge agreed to release Jessica into the custody of Dr. Drew as long as she spent an entire year in his rehab facility in California, followed by three years’ probation. However, she was about to board the plane when she got word that the state of California Department of Probation denied her transfer, and so she cannot leave Florida. She is due back in court to figure out what can be done about her situation since she is not allowed to attend the rehab center in California.

Happy New Year’s Eve! As I mentioned before, I’ll be doing my part to keep up with VH1 and all their countdowns by creating one of my own for the top ten VH1 reality moments of 2007. There was no scientific method to the placement of these moments, I just took what I liked and included what some of you readers sent to me to come up with one big end of the year list! I expect you to disagree with my choices, so let me know in the comments. So, here we go with the Watching VH1 year end countdown!

10. Pickel is Purged!–America’s Most Smartest Model

Seriously, who saw that coming? I sure didn’t. The episode was entertaining, surprising, and hilarious. I mean, come on. That montage of Pickel and Brett at the end as they hugged goodbye made me laugh out loud. It was good to see him come back for the finale, though, even if VJ did win…ugh.

9. The contestants have to pick out lingerie–Pickup Artist

How deliciously evil of Mystery and his wingmen to make the contestants drool over the women in their lingerie while having to listen to them talk about what they liked to wear! It was hilarious watching the guys go into lingerie stores and have to describe what they had learned from the women and pick out an outfit in their sizes and what they would like to wear. Pure awkwardness is always funny!

8. Tango breaks up with New York–I Love New York 1 Reunion Show

Of course we knew the love affair wouldn’t last (I Love New York was getting too high of ratings for the producers to let them live happily ever after), but a good old fashioned New York meltdown is always entertaining. She cursed, she cried, she threw things…ahh insanity.

7. Pepa sexy dances in Salt’s church–Salt N Pepa Show

It’s amazing the pair ever got back together, but the funniest moment of the entire show had to be when Salt convinced Pepa to perform at her church with her. First, Pepa wants to wear her “hoochie” barely there outfits and then once they get on stage and perform, she decides to keep in her signature sexy moves–while singing about God. The look on Salt’s face and the way she grabbed her and pulled her up was priceless.

6. Rodeo man handles Lacey–Rock of Love

Lacey was just a big villain on Rock of Love and there was one time that I absolutely loved. Lacey was trying to get in Dallas’s face about Dallas and her fur and started getting physical. Never fear, Rodeo is here! She grabbed Lacey on the stairs and threw her down and kept her pinned until Dallas could get away. I believe her words in her interview were something to the effect of “I may be a southern lady, but I man handled that bitch.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.

As the current season of CelebReality winds down, VH1 is already starting to hype their new season. Finales have already been aired of America’s Most Smartest Model, The Salt N Pepa Show, Gotti’s Way, and I Love New York 2. The season finale of The Shot airs this weekend and the I Love New York Reunion show will air after a short holiday break.

So what’s on the list for January? Surprisingly enough, Flavor of Love 3 is not on the docket for the newest CelebReality season, even though it should be finished filming already. There are, however, plenty of new seasons of some of your favorite CelebReality shows, as well as some brand new offerings that will begin in January.

Mo’Nique showed those Flavor of Love girls how to become proper women (or at least she put in a valiant effort at it), and boy did the ratings go through the roof. It is no surprise, then, that MTV and VH1 is working with Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx on a show that sounds an awful lot like a Charm School for guys.

The show, which has currently inked a 2 year production deal, will be called “From G’s to Gents” and will have the multi talented actor, comedian, and musician coaching guys who are rough around the edges to change them into high class gentlemen.

If the show ends up on VH1 instead of MTV, there is no word yet if the cast would consist of former I Love New York contestants, although that is a likely scenario. There are plenty of guys to choose from between both seasons of the house of crazies. Can’t you just see It learning proper table manners instead of licking a woman’s neck?

There is no filming or airing date set for this venture yet, but stay tuned to WatchingVH1.com for more information as it becomes available.

Nick Hogan (real name: Nick Bollea), co-star of VH1’s hit reality show Hogan Knows Best and son of Hulk Hogan was arrested and booked on criminal charges stemming from his accident earlier this year in which he was drag racing in Clearwater, FL. His passenger, John Graziano, got the worst of the accident and may never fully recover. Here is part of the press release issued to celebrity gossip website TMZ by the Hogans’ manager:

“Nick and the entire Hogan Bollea family are saddened that criminal charges have been filed in regards to the tragic single car accident on August 26, 2007.

Nick will meet and answer these charges in the appropriate arena ­ a court of law. The family’s primary focus and concern still remains for the continued recovery of Nick’s longtime friend John Graziano. The Bolleas will also continue to stand by the Graziano family and help them in any way they can.

The tragedy to both families is compounded by the fact that unfortunately John was not wearing his seatbelt. Thankfully, Nick was wearing his.”

There is no word as to how this news might affect any pending filming of Hogan Knows Best, or how it affects Hulk’s “Father of the Year” status.

Did Bret Michaels really find his true love this season? I guess we won’t know until after the finale is aired. What we do know, however, is that there will be a second season of Rock of Love (or a similar show). Idolator.com is reporting casting has started for another round of this reality show. According to the article, casting crews are looking for the following:

“girls 21+, single and who are looking to win the love of the rock star of their dreams”

There is no mention of whether or not the guy looking for love will be Bret Michaels again, but the casting notice has the exact same wording as the casting call for the current season:

“someone that makes the girls wild and girls would do anything just to meet this guy, a Tommy Lee type of rocker” who wants “hardcore rocker chicks, tattooed, big hair, drinks beer, rockin body.”

A boycott has been launched against VH1 by Black Media News for the station’s portrayal of black women in its CelebReality shows. The boycott stems from a story leaked by an alleged employee of the company stating that VH1 passed on a new series entitled “Interracial Love” in which professional black women would look for a love a different race. The employee claimed the show was passed on because VH1 execs said that the public only wants to see “ghetto” acting black people. EURweb.com has obtained this letter from Black Media News concerning the boycott:

To whom it may concern,

There is a boycott that has taken a life of its own against the VH1 Network. We here at Black Media News have been watching the support around this boycott. VH1 had made racist comments about black women and why they only cast shows that stereotype black women as ghetto. The story was leaked on the Tom Joyner morning show and was also reported on Black Press Radio. The following comments were made by an employee of VH1. We feel these statements are worse than Don Imus due to the fact that they are not talking about just 12 black women they are talking about an entire race of black women. VH1 shows their views in their shows of black women. They have been type casting with black women only in ghetto roles. This is a very racist view and we ask for the continued support of this boycott. There are links below of the story black press radio did on this boycott and an editorial.

The Hogan family’s Miami home has had its share of headlines over the last few weeks. According to the Miami Herald, not only did Hulk’s Lamborghini spontaneously combust back in November, but he was recently robbed of about $100,000 worth of jewelry when the family was moving out of their Miami Mansion:

In the latest bit of bad fortune, Hogan was moving out of his home in the 2900 block of North Bay Road on Thursday when jewelry — including a platinum diamond watch and some diamond-encrusted dog tags — vanished, according to a report filed with the Miami Beach Police Department.

Luckily for Terry, Linda, Brooke, and Nick, it seems like their bad fortune may have ended. They sold their home for more than the asking price to action film director Michael Bay:

The man behind such blockbusters as Transformers, Pearl Harbor and Armageddon paid a little more than the $18.9 million (U.S.) asking price for the 17,339-square-foot home on upscale North Bay Road.

It is reported that the Hogans will relocate to an estate near Clearwater, Florida. The asking price was about $7 million more than what they paid for the Miami abode. If that’s not a little bit of good luck, I don’t know what is!

There has been no word if there will be a 5th season of Hogan Knows Best set in their new home. Season 4 is currently airing on VH1.

CelebReality and Surreal Life star Tammy Faye Bakker Messner has died at the age of 65. She has been valiantly fighting cancer for some time now. To read more about her life and death, check out the story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Perez Hilton, self proclaimed “Queen of All Media”, announced on his website last Friday that he has signed a deal with VH1 for a series of specials based on his celebrity gossip blog. The new show is set to debut in September and should be an interesting addition to the CelebReality lineup.

Perez describes his new show on his blog:

The show will be a fun, fresh way of looking at the wacky world of celebrities and interacting with them. It will be like PerezHilton.com come to life, but even juicier.

Juicier? Than the blog? Wow. We are in for some snarky, nasty, trashy talk with this new show. I, personally, read Perez’s blog often, but others are completely put off by his tone and “meanness” to the celebrities. However, it would seem Perez would be a perfect fit on a channel that boasts crazy cat fights over rappers who wear clocks. I will give this show a shot, will you? Let me know in the comments.

Move over, Paris. The latest celeb-inmate to hit the jails of California is none other than Shooting Sizemore star Tom Sizemore. His drug addiction and violation of the terms of a previous probation has done him in this time. Eonline.com reports:

Despite a tearful mea culpa by the actor—and a promise to behave himself—Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Cynthia Rayvis agreed with the prosecutor that the 45-year-old Sizemore had violated the terms of his probation by “being under the influence of methamphetamine, opiates and marijuana” when he was arrested last month in Bakersfield.

Fortunately for Tom, he has been sentenced to serve out his term at Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego, which has a rehab center within the prison. Hopefully, this will allow him to get the help he so desperately needs. Anyone who has seen an episode of Shooting Sizemore on VH1 saw how troubled and horribly addicted Tom is to drugs and alcohol. Famous friends, like Martin Sheen, are supporting him in his sentence and recovery so he can be a better role model for his two year old twin sons. His lawyer plans to appeal the sentence and wants time in previous rehab centers and jail stints to be counted toward his 16 months in prison. He was arrested in May along with his friend Jason Salcido for getting into a drug fueled argument at a hotel.

Clear your calendars on Thursday nights. VH1 is expanding its original programming calendar to include at least 7 new unscripted shows to air not only on the traditional Sunday and Monday nights, but also now on Thursdays. Some of the shows sound interesting, and should be hits. The others…well, you can judge for yourself. MediaWeek gives the low down on some of the new shows:

Upcoming Thursday night entries include the aptly titled competition strip America’s Most Smartest Model, as well as the self-explanatory (if not ill-advised) Danny Bonaduce’s Child Star and The Salt ‘N’ Pepa Show, which looks in on the ‘90s hip-hop duo as they attempt to jump start their career/friendship.

Other projects slated to appear in the next two quarters are: Click!, a competition series pitting would-be fashion photographers against one another; Free Radio, a half-hour improv comedy strip; the documentary series Lords of the Revolution and Old Skool with Terry and Gita, a five-episode Bunin/Murray curiosity that VH1 characterized as “The Golden Girls meets Borat.”

The bold emphasis in the above quote is mine. I made that one stand out because it is the description that has me the most curious. What in the world could that show be like? Wasn’t Rose on the Golden Girls kind of like Borat already? Leave me some comments on what you think that show will be like or possible titles.

Eggnog, mistletoe, caroling…and Larry the Cable Guy? When I think of Christmas, I don’t exactly dream of sleeveless flannel shirts, but VH1 is banking on starting a new Christmas tradition starring none other than Larry the Cable Guy. Entertainment Weekly first reported this story and is describing the holiday special like this:

Parallel’s J.P. Williams, who manages Larry the Cable Guy, describes the special as a contemporary, edgy take on the heartfelt Andy Williams Christmas specials that started during the 1960s and featured production numbers and performances by the singer and his family along with special guests like the Osmond Brothers.

I suppose there is the “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” song that my brother makes me listen to every year at family holiday celebrations, so a Larry the Cable Guy special shouldn’t be too far off of that track. It just makes me wonder what VH1 sounding acts would sign on for this kind of shindig. Don’t get me wrong, I like Larry the Cable Guy, but wouldn’t this do better over on CMT? What do you think?
