VH1 to Broadcast “Concert for Diana”

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

It has been almost 10 years since Princess Diana died in a fiery car crash as she was being chased by the paparazzi. Her sons, diana.jpgPrinces William and Harry, are planning a benefit concert in her honor on July 1st, which would have been Diana’s 46th birthday. Some big name acts are booked including her close personal friend Elton John, Duran Duran, and performances of songs written by Andrew Lloyd Weber. The Princes have rented out Wembley Stadium in Britain for the event, and the tickets sold out in less than 30 minutes. All proceeds from the concert will go to support Princess Diana’s favorite charities. Members of the British royal family, including Camilla Parker Bowles–the woman Charles was allegedly cheating on Diana with–are expected to attend. The concert will be broadcast on NBC and VH1 for the rest of us who couldn’t get a ticket.

World Series of Pop Culture 2007, Coming Soon!

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Last year, we watched 16 teams go head to head in a crazy hybrid of trivia and useless pop culture knowledge in a whacked out spelling bee format. From the gravitas of the Ben Stein-like monotone host Pat Kiernan making contestants state their names, to the crazy team wspchosts.jpgnames and outfits, this satisfying little guilty pleasure delivered mind-bending entertainment.

Well, it’s back. The new 16 teams have been chosen, including a team made up of random people who took an internet quiz, and they’ve competed to win the $250,000 prize. The World Series of Pop Culture 2007 is now in the can and will air soon on VH1. The contest was filmed before a live audience the last week in March. There is no official word yet of any spoilers or an expected airdate, but be sure to check back here for that announcement.

I, for one, cannot wait for this show to start up again. I will surely be sitting on my couch watching the competition and yelling out answers and a variety of insults at the contestants. I will admit that I did take the test to become a contestant, but alas, I was not one of the final three chosen to make up the hodgepodge team. I expect to have some special insults just for them since I’m bitter they beat me out to be on the show.

To catch some highlights of last year’s competition, you can check out the VH1 World Series of Pop Culture page.

By the Numbers

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Thanks in part to 4.8 million viewers tuning in to see New York get engaged to Tango on the I Love New York finale, VH1 had about a 20% increase of viewers in the highly coveted 18-49 year old group for the first quarter of the year. The network also logged over 1 million hits to their online streaming video, the VSpot, on Monday and Tuesday of this week looking for information on New York and her new man.

Ratings are expected to be even higher the second quarter with favorites such as Celebrity Fit Club return and new shows like Charm School premiere.

I’ll keep you updated on the latest numbers as the new season gets underway. Also, don’t forget to tune into the I Love New York reunion show on April 15th to find out what happened after New York and Tango got engaged.

Who can’t get enough of Genesis, Heart, Ozzy Osbourne, or ZZ Top? I know I love this year’s honorees at the VH1 Rock Honors Awards. They will be joined on stage by performances by an eclectic bunch of artists like Nickelback, Gretchen Wilson, and Keane. Hosted by bad boy Bam Margera (son of former Celebrity Fit Clubber Phil Margera), the show will be taped and broadcast live from the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on Thursday, May 24th at 9 pm EST.

Tickets range from $75-$175 for the event and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

Do You Want to be a VH1 Superstar?

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Here’s your chance for 15 minutes of fame courtesy of VH1. The following casting calls are now happening:vh1cc.jpg

“The Pick Up Artist”: If you are a 21-30 year old dorky guy who is always striking out with women, this could be your big break!

“Your Cheatin’ Heart”: Country music fans who wish to confront the one who “done you wrong” are wanted for this new reality show to be broadcast on CMT, a sister channel to VH1.

“I’m a Secret Country Dancer”: Dust off those cowboy boots and brush up on your “Achy Breaky” and “Tush Push”. Casting directors are looking for line dancers 18 years old and over.

“My Big Redneck Wedding”: You might be a Redneck if…you apply for this show! If you’re planning a good old fashioned shotgun wedding, you could be a part of this show.

“Have Your Fabulous Wedding…on VH1!”: Couples who are 21 and over and planning a wedding that will cost at least $300,000 are needed to share their special day with VH1.

Good luck, and be sure to give me a shout-out when your episode airs!

I Love New York Finale Tonight!

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Now It’s Time to Say Goodbye…NY1.jpg

I Love New York is coming to an end. The finale airs at 9:00 PM EST tonight, Monday April 2nd. “The Final Adios” will show the turmoil New York will undoubtedly have to endure as she chooses between Chance and Tango.

Romance and passion are to be had by all parties as they travel to Mexico before the final decision is made. The guys apparently threaten to kill each other and must be separated for the entire vacation. Luckily, it doesn’t phase New York and she even gets her weave wet to swim with the dolphins.

Who is the man of New York’s dreams? Tune in tonight to find out who she chooses, and if it is a reciprocal love (lust?).
